Know Your City Inc. v. Brantford (City of), 2020 ONSC 5857
"Know Your City Inc. is Veronica Martisius & Ronald Heaslip. We are two "Friends of Arrowdale" who incorporated to take on this legal action. Ron is a longtime citizen of Brantford. Veronica was born and raised in Brantford, Ward 4. She is Mohawk, a direct descendent of Joseph Brant, and a member of the Six Nations of the Grand River. She currently resides out West.
Arrowdale is a historic and beloved municipal golf course in Brantford, ON. It is also 49 acres of cherished inner-city green space situated within the Haldimand Tract.
On December 17, 2019, Brantford City Council voted 8-3 to dispose Arrowdale for private development and to fund the construction of affordable housing even there is NO LAND to build affordable housing on. Know Your City Inc. is challenging Council's decision to sell Arrowdale via a judicial review because the decision was arrived at in a procedurally unfair way, presented a reasonable apprehension of bias, Council members acted in bad faith, and local First Nations were not notified or consulted. Know Your City Inc. supports affordable housing but does not believe that Arrowdale/green space should be sacrificed. [...]" (source)
